EACA Executive

EACA is led by an Executive Board elected by the General Assembly, supported by country representatives across the region.

President

Dr. Margaret Jjuuko

Dr. Margaret Jjuuko is an Associate Professor of Journalism, Media and Communication studies and Coordinator of the MA programme at the School of Journalism and Communication (SJC), University of Rwanda. An alumnus of Makerere University and Rhodes University, she has taught and consulted on a number of media training and developmental projects in Eastern and Southern Africa. She served as Secretary General of EACA (2014–2017) and remains a board member. In 2022, she was honoured with a "JMS50 Alumni Award" of Rhodes University for her service and contribution to the East African media scholarly community.

Vice President

Dr. James Kiwanuka-Tondo

Dr. James Kiwanuka-Tondo is Professor in the Department of Communication at North Carolina State University. His main research focus is health communication campaigns with particular emphasis on HIV/AIDS, and he developed the first quantitative model linking organisational factors, campaign planning and execution variables. He has published 18 peer-reviewed journal articles, four book chapters and several research reports, and has been Principal Investigator on multiple research grants. He is a Fulbright Scholar (2017/2018), Carnegie Africa Diaspora Fellow (2016) and recipient of NC State's Jackson Rigney International Service Award. He also serves as Editor of the Africa Journal of Communication.

Secretary General

Eddyne Yamuremye

Eddyne Yamuremye, M.Sc., is a communication practitioner with a Master's degree in Mass Communication and over five years of experience in university teaching, translation and consulting. She is currently a full-time lecturer at Light University in Bujumbura. A natural leader and team builder with experience in both the public and private sectors, she combines superior planning and marketing skills with the ability to work effectively across cultures.

Treasurer

Dr. Nancy Booker

Dr. Nancy Booker is an Assistant Professor of Journalism and Communication and Director of Academic Affairs at the Graduate School of Media and Communications. With 22 years of teaching and academic administration experience, she specialises in broadcast journalism, multimedia storytelling, media management and leadership, and health communication. Trained in leadership at Harvard University, she serves as a Commissioner on the Media Council of Kenya's Complaints Commission. A founding member of EACA, she previously taught at Multimedia University, Daystar University and ABC University in Liberia, and worked at KBC and NTV.

Dr. Wilson Ugangu

Dr. Wilson Ugangu is Senior Lecturer of Media Studies at Multimedia University of Kenya, where he is also Associate Dean, Faculty of Media & Communication Studies. With nearly twenty years of teaching and practice in communication, he has provided academic leadership and mentorship and written extensively on Kenya's and Africa's media — including media policy, democracy and participation, media and conflict, media and culture, international communication and globalisation.

Board Member

Christine Wandolo

Christine Wandolo is a PhD candidate and adjunct faculty at Daystar University, Kenya. Her interests include strategic communication for sustainable development, environmental and science communication, knowledge management, and new media and ICTs for sustainable development. She holds a Master of Arts in International Media Studies from Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, Deutsche Welle and the University of Bonn, and a BA (Hons) from the University of Nairobi. She has worked as an editor for the Munich Eye, taught at Pan Africa Christian University, and currently works in media, marketing, public relations and knowledge management.
